Indianapolis GM Plant To Be Demolished

A vacant factory just west of downtown will be demolished this fall.  The former General Motors stamping plant has been empty since it closed in 2011.  The property is owned by a federal land trust, who tried to market the site as reusable, but officials say no one is interested because of the building’s size and age.

 

Indiana University Baseball Team Headed To World Series

The Indiana University baseball team is going to the College World Series.  The Hoosiers are the first Big Ten team to reach the championship since Michigan did in 1984.  Indiana advanced to the CWS on Sunday after beating Florida State 11-to-6.

 

Beef Prices Hit Record Highs

First gas and now beef prices are hitting record highs….And you can blame the droughts for ground beef hiting a record-breaking $3.51 a pound.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, sirloin steak is selling for an average of $5.14 a pound, while ground beef is at $3.20, up nearly 50 cents.

Experts say prices aren’t likely to drop much before the next two grilling holidays — Father’s Day and the Fourth of July.

 

Police Name Person of Interest in Speedway Murder

Police are seeking a person of interest related to the fatal shooting of 20 year old Bryce Barnes in Speedway early Saturday morning.

Detectives said 19 year old Jerome Seward, is a person of interest in the case.

Seward is described as 6 foot 3 inches tall, and about 180 pounds. He was last seen driving a blue 1997 Buick Park Avenue with Indiana license plate 103A-E-Z.

Trucks Hit Bridge 2 Days In A Row

For the second time in two days this weekend, an oversized truck struck a downtown overpass on Saturday.

A Semi Driver carrying concrete molds from Ohio, to St. Louis hit the — Virginia Avenue overpass near the south split. State Police ticketed the driver for driving an oversized load through downtown, which is not permitted because of low bridges and they should use 465.

 

Man Killed in ATV VS Motorcycle Crash

One man was killed and another man was seriously injured in a crash involving a motorcycle and a farm ATV Friday evening.

Police said 27 year old Keith Meyer, was riding his motorcycle when an ATV, driven by 71 year old Eugene Grote, pulled out  and the motorcycle struck the ATV on the driver’s side.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene and the other suffered severe head injuries.
