IMPD to Unveil Summer Crime Strategy 

The city is responding to a jump in violent crimes with a plan of action for the summer that will involve a partnership with local agencies and community groups.

IMPD says The strategy will focus on the three main points of prevention, intervention and suppression of crime around Indianapolis working with at-risk youth, those who view law enforcement negatively and high risk offenders.

Officials said violent crimes are up 8.4 percent in Indianapolis so far this year.

 

Girl Shot Through Floor of Avon Home

A girl was wounded after being shot in Avon last night.

The girl was in a downstairs bathroom changing her clothes while a 19-year-old man was upstairs doing something with a 12-gage shotgun and it went off.

The gun fired through the floor and into the bathroom where the girl was.

She was rushed to Hendricks Memorial before being flown to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Police said they believe this was an accident.

 

Ball State Approves 2% Tuition Hike

Ball State University has approved a 2 percent tuition increase for the next two years.

This is the lowest increase at Ball State in 37 years. Tuition go up about $90 each semester.

IU also raised tuition by 1.75%, Ivy Tech approved an 8% hike and Purdue has frozen tuition.

 

Death of Woman Found Dead in Fire “Suspicious”

Police are calling the death of a woman found inside a burning home “suspicious.”  The body of 38-year-old Marsha Bright was found Wednesday evening at the Whispering Pine Apartment complex.  Police say her Jeep was stolen around the time of the fire, but it was recovered about seven-miles away and it was also on fire.
