If three South Florida doctors would’ve prescribed blood thinning medicine for late saxophonist Clarence Clemons before and after his surgery, he would still be here, maintains his family.

As we reported, Clemons, a key member of Bruce Springsteen‘s E Street Band, died June 18, 2011 in a West Palm Beach hospital just days after he suffered a stroke. He was 69.

The Big Man’s brother, William Clemons, the administrator of his estate, filed a lawsuit against the three doctors in Palm Beach County circuit court last year, reports Jose Lambiet’s Gossip Extra.

” Clemons’ contention is that the death was avoidable and occurred after doctors failed to prescribe Clemons blood thinner before he underwent carpal tunnel surgery at the Laser and Surgery Center of the Palm Beaches.

The negligence lawsuit was cleared for trial a couple weeks ago. The trial has yet to be scheduled but is supposed to take place around Christmas time.

According to the complaint, Palm Beach County hematologist Robert J. Jacobson, internist David W. Dodson, a Palm Beach society fixture, and cardiologist Keith Meyer failed to prescribe Clemons the blood thinner Lovelox in case of complication after Clemons’ hand surgery.”
