School Employees in Hot Water Over Duct Tape Incident

Several employees have been placed on administrative leave from a Wayne Township, Indiana school after being accused of duct taping the ankles and shoes of a special needs child. Wayne Township Schools spokesperson Mary Lang called what happened “appalling” and said the behavior isn’t condoned.

Officials aren’t saying exactly how many employees were involved in the incident, but confirmed they do work with special needs students. Nate and Elizabeth Searcy say their eight-year-old daughter, who has Down Syndrome, came home from Westlake Elementary on Monday with her shoes duct taped to her feet.

School Bus and SUV Collide. One Person in Critical Condition

One person is in critical condition following a crash Wednesday afternoon between a school bus and an SUV. Police say the Washington Township bus was carrying 18 students from North Central High School when it collided with the Chevy Trail Blazer at the intersection of 71st Street and Binford Boulevard. Three students received minor injuries, but the driver of the SUV had to be extricated and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Mayor Ballard Takes Over Low-Performing Schools

Mayor Greg Ballard is taking control of four low-performing schools under state control. On Wednesday, the Board of Education unanimously approved Mayor Ballard’s request to give his office authority over Arlington, Howe and Manual high schools, along with Emma Donnan Middle School. The turnaround operators and IPS were also in favor of the oversight transfer.

Visitor Restrictions at Hospitals Lifted

Visitor restrictions at Marion County hospitals will be lifted on Friday. The Marion County Public Health Department says flu activity is decreasing, but its important to remember the flu season doesn’t end until April 1st. Experts say you should still protect yourself from the flu with good hand washing habits and covering a cough, as well as getting a flu shot if you haven’t had one yet.
