“Sparkle,” the movie that marks Jordin Sparks‘ big-screen debut and Whitney Houston‘s movie comeback, is set to open August 17. A red-carpet premiere is planned for the film but a new report suggests that Houston’s family is making things difficult in terms of scheduling.
Just so you know, premieres normally take place at least a week before a movie opens but the film’s premiere is tentatively scheduled for the day before the movie hits theaters because of Houston’s family’s demands.
Sources tell BMS that the family doesn’t want the premiere to be held on any date that’s near August 9, which would have been Houston’s 49th birthday.
In addition, question of which family members will be attending, including Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, and her mom, Cissy Houston, is also “very much up in the air.” On top of that, the location of the premiere is upsetting the family. “I’m surprised they’re having it in Los Angeles, where Whitney died,” said a source. “They should be having it in New York.”
