Listen up, Jon Hamm. The “Mad Men” actor may not have a whole lot of respect for stars like Kim Kardashian, but Niecy Nash is speaking up for the celebrities of reality TV, saying, “We are talented, too.”

“We are bred to compare ourselves to the next person, to what they have and what they have accomplished,” Niecy tells me. “There are a lot of actors who don’t like reality stars ’cause they feel these people aren’t accomplished. They haven’t done this or that, but they are savvy. They have found a way to make it work. I could dissect your career all day long, but I’m focused on my own career.”

Hamm, who has compared reality stars to porn stars, isn’t the only Hollywood A-lister who has spoken against reality TV. Accepting an accolade at the MTV Movie Awards in June 2011, Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon said, “I get it, girls, that it’s cool to be a bad girl. But it is possible to make it in Hollywood without doing a reality show.”

“Reality does get a bad rap,” says Niecy. “But I’m not concerned about it ’cause I know who I am. They can edit it, but you are in charge of what you do.”

Niecy’s new show, “Leave it to Niecy,” airs Sundays on TLC.
