The mother of late, great singer Whitney Houston is finally breaking her silence.

Cissy Houston, 78, sat down with My9, a local New Jersey Fox affiliate, to give her first interview since the Feb. 11 passing of her daughter.

The news channel snagged the interview while Houston, also a singer, took a break from rehearsing for the upcoming Gospelfest. Interestingly, the chat took place at New Hope Baptist Church, where Whitney’s funeral was held on Feb. 18.

Watch a bit of the interview here.

A somber Cissy told reporter Brenda Blackmon that she obviously wishes things were different.

“(There’s) nothing I can do about it. There’s nothing nobody else can do about it,” she said sadly. “If I thought I could do something to bring her back, that’s exactly what I’d do, but I know that’s impossible.”

Whitney, 48, died after being found submerged in a bathtub at the Beverly Hills Hilton the day before the Grammys. A coroner’s report, released last week, listed the singer’s official cause of death as “drowning and effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use.”

My 9’s exclusive interview will air in part tomorrow night and on Monday night.
