Is it a fad or is natural hair here to stay?  A study commissioned in 2010 by an Atlanta-based hair product company says more women are rethinking their relaxed styles and instead are opting to wear natural kinky, coily, wavy and curly styles.  An article in today’s USA Today says a study conducted by Mintel, a consumer spending and market research firm, revealed the number of women who have decided against using chemicals relaxers has increased to 36% this year, up from 26% in 2010 while sales of relaxer kits decreased by 17% between 2006 and 2011.  One Florida tv reporter, Rochelle Ritchie says she grew tired of the weaves, wigs, extensions and frequent relaxers and chose to wear her natural hair saying she felt like she was “covering up.”  One Washington D.C. salon owner admits she is booked several months into 2012 with clients making natural hair appointments.  Factor in hours spent in a hair salon and the potential for hair dryness and breakage caused by regular chemical relaxers, doesn’t going natural just make sense?
