Announcement regarding Manning expected today

(Indianapolis)  —  ESPN is reporting this morning that sources have indicated Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning is leaving the team. A noon news conference is scheduled for today where team owner Jim Irsay is expected to speak. The Colts had to meet a March 8th deadline to pay a $28 million dollar bonus to Manning or release him from the team. If he is released, Manning will be considered a free agent. Speculation is with the Colts holding the top draft pick, management feared it was too risky and pricey to keep Manning with the organization. Manning missed the entire 2011 season  after three neck surgeries and had not missed any games during his 13 seasons with the Colts.

Woman killed in traffic incident

(Indianapolis)  — A 49-year-old woman was killed and another person was injured as they attempted to cross at an intersection last night. According to witnesses,  a man and the victim got off an IndyGo bus near East Washington Street and Shortridge Road just after 8 p.m. and tried to cross the street when they were struck by a vehicle headed eastbound. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man, identified as James Spurlin, 50, was treated for leg injuries and released. The driver of the vehicle, James Tyler, 19, was not injured. The identity of the woman has not been released.

Arrest made in facility arson

Nashville) —  The former manager of the Little Nashville Opry has been arrested on an arson charge, more than two years after the star country music venue was completely destroyed. James D. Bowyer, 75, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the fire that destroyed the opry, after a September 2009 show had ended. According to court documents, at the time of the fire, the owners owed more than $170,000 dollars, but Bowyer had less than $9,000 in his bank account. 

Firefighters investigating two suspicious fires

(Indianapolis)  —  Arson investigators are looking into two fires which took place on the city’s eastside early this morning.  Firefighters received their first dispatch to a duplex on New York Street. A man, woman and child were able to safely escape. Shortly afterwards, emergency personnel were called to a garage fire near Keystone and Michigan Streets.  The area has been plagued with suspicious fires for the past several months.

Councilman being requested to resign

(Beech Grove)  — A city councilman was arrested Tuesday morning on charges of patronizing a prostitute and now that city’s mayor wants the councilman out of office. IMPD arrested Paul David Mobley Jr., 63, after he allegedly offered $20 for oral sex to an undercover officer in the 3000 block of East Washington Street as part of a police sting. . Beech Grove Mayor Dennis Buckley reportedly hand delivered a letter to Mobley’s home Tuesday night asking that he resign from his position on the council. Mobley is a Democrat holding an at-large seat on the Beech Grove council.
