President’s Day holiday closings
Today is President’s Day. All federal, courts, city and county offices are closed while state offices and public libraries are open. There will be no regular mail delivery today, postal branches are closed and all license branches are also closed. IndyGo buses will run on their regular schedule. Most banks are closed, but you may want to check your individual branch before heading out. Some schools are in session to make up for weather related cancellations earlier his month…again check with your child’s school district.
Two weekend fires caused by children
(Indianapolis) — Firefighters battled two separate blazes both started by children playing with lighters. The first fire occurred at the Pickwick Place Apartments in the 9400 block of Ditch Road, where a 9-year-old girl tried to light a marshmallow which fell on some bedding causing it to ignite. Seven apartments there were damaged at a cost of $300,000 and twenty people lost their homes in the incident. A second fire on Sunday happened in the 8100 block of Wysong on the city’s eastside. A 4-year-old boy had placed a lighter in his pocket, only to begin playing with it later. That blaze caused $50,000 in damages and left four families without homes.
Measles cases rises
(Noblesville) — There are now 14 people in central Indiana with confirmed cases of measles since the Super Bowl. A Noblesville city employee was diagnosed last Friday. Noblesville schools have banned unvaccinated students and staff from class until either the threat passes or they have received new shots. Measles is a highly contagious virus which can be spread to others who inhale droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes into the air.
Shooting suspect in custody
(Indianapolis) — Police have arrested a man they believe is responsible for an early Saturday morning shooting. Ronald Moore, 35, is accused of shooting his girlfriend, Tamara Pratt, 34, in the head at a residence in the 8600 block of Meridian Street. Moore fled the scene, leading police on a 40 mile high speed chase ending in northern Indiana. He is being held in White County on charges including reckless driving and resisting law enforcement. Pratt was last listed in critical condition at St. Vincent Hospital.
