Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison apologized to teammates Ben Roethlisberger and Rashard Mendenhall on Thursday for comments he made about them in the August issue of Men’s Journal Magazine.
In the article, Harrison criticized Roethlisberger and Mendenhall for their lackluster play in the Superbowl. His most controversial remarks came when he verbally assaulted NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, calling him a ‘crook’ and a ‘devil,’ and saying he hated and would never respect him.
Harrison did not retract those statement in his apolog,y but he addressed anti-gay remarks he made in reference to the commissioner.
“I did make comments about my teammates when I was talking about the emotional Super Bowl loss, but the handful of words that were used and heavily publicized yesterday were pulled out of a long conversation and the context was lost,” Harrison said in his statement.
